John Lassiter

Chief Executive Officer

John Lassiter serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee. Lassiter is president of Carolina Legal Staffing, which provides legal professionals placement and services in every major market of the Carolinas. He previously served as chairman of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina and as a member of the Charlotte City Council and Charlotte- Mecklenburg Board of Education. Prior to starting his company, he was a Senior Vice President and General Counsel with Belk Stores and an Assistant Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice. John earned his Bachelor’s Degree and Law degree from Wake Forest University.

Andrea Mathis

Executive Administrator

Andrea Mathis serves as Executive Administrator for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee. Andrea is originally from Wilmington, Delaware and relocated to Charlotte in March 2018. Prior to living in Charlotte, she worked as a School Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity at Smith Elementary School on the U.S. Army base in Baumholder Germany, where she was stationed with her family. She also previously worked at Emory University as a Human Resources Assistant. Andrea is a graduate of Norfolk State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She is married with two children and enjoys photography.

Towers Mingledorff

Chief Operating Officer

Towers Mingledorff serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee. He first moved to North Carolina to work for the Governor Romney for President campaign. After the 2012 election cycle, Towers worked at the N.C. General Assembly, assisting Sen. Brent Jackson and Sen. Andrew Brock. He then moved to Washington, D.C. in 2015 to work for Rep. David Rouzer, followed by Sen. Thom Tillis in 2016. After two years of working with Sen. Tillis, Towers joined SAS, the analytics software company, based in Cary. He is originally from northern Florida and graduated from the George Washington University. Towers is married with two children.

Scott Syfert

General Counsel

Scott Syfert serves as General Counsel for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee. He is a partner at Moore & Van Allen and a native of Charlotte. Scott practices business and corporate law with a focus on international business transactions. He was named among Who’s Who Legal M&A and Governance (2015, 2018), Best Lawyers in America for Corporate Law (2013-2018), and North Carolina Super Lawyers (2012-2015). He is a co-founder of the May 20th Society which commemorates the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. Scott is Vice Chairman of the Trail of History and serves on the Board of Directors of Central Piedmont Community College and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. He studied history and political science as an undergraduate at UNC-Chapel Hill and the London School of Economics. Scott received his Master’s Degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Kim Bowman

Controller

Kim Bowman serves as Controller for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee. Originally from Southampton, N.Y., she began her career in public accounting at RSM McGladrey in tax and audit. Kim then served as Controller for HPI Management, LP, a real estate investment, development, and asset management group. She also worked in corporate compliance and human resources for HPI Management, LP. She worked part-time with public accounting firm Haas and Morgan CPA, PLLC preparing individual tax returns and most recently has been self-employed preparing individual tax returns and working with wealth management company, Bowman Financial Group, LLC. Kim graduated from Davidson College and has lived in Charlotte since, with the exception of attending UNC-Chapel Hill to obtain her Master of Accounting. She is married with two children and is an active member of First Presbyterian Church.

Ashley Simmons

Interim Communications Director

Ashley Simmons serves as Interim Communications Director for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee on behalf of Moore & Van Allen Public Affairs. As Director of Public Relations for MVA Public Affairs, she provides clients with strategic communications and media relations counsel. She also manages public relations campaigns, crafts messaging and creates other content for communications channels. Before joining MVA Public Affairs, she held communications roles with the City of Charlotte, where she managed public relations efforts for the city manager’s office and mayor’s office. Prior to city government, Ashley held various communications positions for three North Carolina public school districts. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism & Mass Communication from UNC-Chapel Hill and her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from UNC-Pembroke. Ashley is an active member of Mountain Island Church of Christ and the Charlotte chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
